Short answer
Evidence-led verdict
Hazakura Ways is a Relax Gaming first-party title identified in the checked demo as hazakuraways. The live help we inspected is dated 23 July 2024 and marked version 2.0.4; the official release record dates the game to 25 January 2022. The rules describe six reels and four rows with 4,096 ways. Those identifiers matter because lower-return builds and market-specific clients can share the same artwork.
The checked help states a theoretical RTP of 96.29%, equivalent to a 3.71% theoretical house edge. That is the figure for the client opened during this review, not proof that every operator deploys the same build. Relax's product record lists alternative game IDs, so the percentage inside the exact live client remains the controlling value.
The checked help caps settlement at 50,000x the regular bet; the additional Mega Bet charge is excluded from the cap basis. The current help does not publish minimum or maximum stakes. No supplier-card currency range is presented as an NZD limit. The risk profile is high, as labelled in the official release record; return and prize information do not predict whether a feature or large award will occur in a session.
This page confirms studio authorship, current help text and public release status. It does not claim that a New Zealand operator offers the title, that a demo is a local real-money product, or that a displayed euro-denominated reference range will appear as NZD. Those questions require a separate operator and live-client check.

Exact title, version and evidence boundary
Relax Gaming's first-party product page identifies Hazakura Ways, and the studio's release record dates it to 25 January 2022. The client inspected for this guide uses game ID hazakuraways. Its help is dated 23 July 2024 and labelled version 2.0.4.
The exact title matters because “Ways” is part of the product name as well as a description of its evaluation method. This is not a generic guide to Japanese-themed games, and no rules are borrowed from another Relax release with a similar visual theme.
Version 2.0.4 is the controlling source for return, feature price, Scatter schedule and maximum. Launch material supplies release date and the provider's high-volatility label only where the current help is silent.
A global supplier client proves the rules that loaded during our check. It does not establish that an operator accepts a New Zealand account, offers this game ID, uses the same RTP or supports Mega Bet and feature buying.
Fixed 6x4 geometry
How 4,096 ways are evaluated
The grid contains six reels and four rows, creating 4,096 ways. A normal symbol pays when it appears in any position on at least three adjacent reels beginning with the leftmost reel.
Vertical alignment is irrelevant to the ways calculation. Several copies of the same symbol on a reel multiply the number of valid combinations, while only the longest matching combination for that symbol is paid.
The Wild substitutes for paying symbols but not for the Scatter. That division keeps ordinary ways wins separate from the Free Spins trigger and prevents a Wild from being counted as a missing Scatter.
The ways count is constant; the special-symbol mechanics change which symbols occupy positions, not the number of grid positions. A 4,096-way label therefore does not mean 4,096 prizes or a feature on every spin.
A base-game enhancement
The random feature selects one paying symbol
At the start of an ordinary game spin, the random feature may select one paying symbol as the special symbol. Every matching special symbol then expands downward to fill the remaining positions below it.
The expanded positions take part in win evaluation regardless of where the original selected symbols landed. The mechanism changes the symbol coverage on that spin, but the help does not state a trigger frequency or guarantee that the expansion creates a win.
Under ordinary staking, Wilds are excluded from this special-symbol role. Activating Mega Bet changes that rule and allows Wild symbols to expand during the random feature.
The help calls this a random feature and gives no probability table. An observed sequence in demo mode cannot establish its frequency, and a dry run does not make the next spin more likely to receive it.
Four documented awards
Scatters award 10, 15, 20 or 25 Free Spins
Three Scatter symbols award ten Free Spins. Four award fifteen, five award twenty and six award twenty-five. The schedule is based on the number of Scatters in the trigger and should not be shortened to one generic “three or more” value.
Before the feature begins, one paying symbol is selected as the special symbol. It expands downward throughout the entire feature, filling the positions below each occurrence and participating in evaluation regardless of reel position.
Landing at least three Scatters during Free Spins awards additional spins according to the same 10/15/20/25 schedule. The rules do not state that a retrigger is guaranteed or cap the total feature at the initial award.
If Mega Bet is active, Wilds can take part in the special-symbol expansion during the feature. Without Mega Bet, the Wild remains a substitute but is not added to that expanding selection.
Higher price, different rule
Mega Bet adds 50% to the regular stake
Activating Mega Bet charges the regular bet plus an additional 50%. A displayed regular stake of two units would therefore create a three-unit total cost, although the available denominations must be checked in the deployed client.
The option increases the chance of triggering both Free Spins and the random feature. It also allows Wild symbols to participate in special-symbol expansion during those features.
Wins are still awarded from the regular bet amount, not from the larger total charge. The 50,000x maximum is also based on that regular amount. This denominator difference is important when comparing the cost and headline cap.
The help states 96.37% theoretical RTP with Mega Bet, slightly above the 96.29% ordinary setting. That difference is a long-run mathematical property, not evidence that the more expensive option reduces short-session loss risk.
Two selectable purchase prices
Buy Free Spins costs 80x or 120x
Where enabled, Free Spins can be purchased for 80 times the regular bet without Mega Bet. The purchase guarantees at least three Scatter symbols and entry to the feature.
Buying with Mega Bet active costs 120 times the regular bet, exactly 50% more than the ordinary purchase. That route also applies the Mega Bet expansion rules inside the feature.
The help gives 97.00% RTP for Buy Free Spins. It does not publish a separate fourth RTP for the 120x presentation, so this guide does not invent one. The live client should be checked if its information panel distinguishes the two paid routes.
Neither price guarantees more than the documented entry condition. A bought feature can return less than its cost, and operator or market controls may remove both purchase buttons.
Denominator matters
The 50,000x cap excludes the Mega Bet surcharge
If total wins exceed the threshold, the game awards 50,000 times the regular bet. During Free Spins, reaching 50,000x ends the feature and fixes the settlement at that amount.
The help explicitly says the maximum is based on the regular bet without the additional Mega Bet cost. A player paying a 1.5-unit total for a one-unit regular bet therefore should not describe the ceiling as 50,000 times the full charged amount.
This maximum applies to the game round, not to each expanded symbol, each ways combination or each Free Spin independently. Multiple wins accumulate until the threshold is reached.
A cap is not an advertised probability. The high-volatility label and large ceiling provide no countdown or evidence that increasing the stake moves the result closer to the maximum.
Live-help evidence
RTP, house edge and alternative builds
The information panel in the checked official demo states “the theoretical return to player for this game is 96.29%.” Subtracting that value from 100% gives a theoretical house edge of 3.71%. Both numbers describe the same long-run mathematical relationship from opposite directions; they are not separate charges and they are not a forecast for a deposit.
| Checked mode or route | Theoretical RTP | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Base game in official demo | 96.29% | Verified in help: 23 July 2024 |
| Buy Free Spins | 97.00% | Applies only to the documented paid route where available |
| Base game with Mega Bet | 96.37% | Mega Bet adds 50% to the regular bet |
A return of 96.29% means that across the model's very large test horizon, average awards correspond to 96.29 units for every 100 units staked. It does not mean a player receives that percentage back after 100 spins. High variation, rare features and capped awards can produce short samples far above or below the designed average.
Alternative game IDs are material even when their exact returns are absent from the public product card. A casino can deploy a lower-RTP build under the same consumer title. We therefore do not label 96.29% “universal” or “guaranteed.” Open the information control in the operator client and look for the percentage after the game has loaded.
The Buy Free Spins is mathematically separate in the checked help: it states 97.00% RTP and costs 80x the regular bet, or 120x with Mega Bet active. That route can be unavailable in some markets or excluded by an operator. Its published return does not make the option affordable or reduce the possibility of losing the full price.
Do not infer RTP from a demo balance, one successful bonus, a streaming clip or a site's headline card. A random sample cannot identify the configured model reliably. The useful audit record is the exact title, visible game ID or version, displayed RTP, date and operator client captured together.
Distribution, not prediction
Volatility and maximum-win limits
Relax Gaming's 25 January 2022 release labels Hazakura Ways high volatility. The v2.0.4 help gives no numerical volatility index, hit rate, random-feature probability or Scatter frequency.
The checked help caps settlement at 50,000x the regular bet; the additional Mega Bet charge is excluded from the cap basis. “Times bet” uses the full paid stake for the initiating round, not one coin, one line or the balance. A $1 hypothetical stake makes the scale easy to understand, but it does not assert that NZD play is offered.
A cap is a settlement limit, not a realistic session target. It provides no countdown, hit schedule or evidence that raising the stake improves the chance per dollar. Previous non-winning spins do not move a random future result closer to the cap. Treat every paid round as new exposure.
Practical risk is also shaped by total stake, spin speed, feature purchases, enhanced-spin options and session length. A lower stake repeated rapidly can expose more money than a higher stake used briefly. Decide the total acceptable loss before opening the game, then use account limits and breaks rather than chasing a feature.
Read the charged amount
Bet range, optional costs and affordability
Mega Bet adds 50% to the regular stake, while wins remain valued from the regular bet. Read both amounts in the exact client before confirming a round.
Always read the total bet immediately before a paid action. The interface can show denomination, level, lines and total stake separately. Enhanced spins or bonus-reel options may increase the price of a round, while a feature purchase can cost many multiples of the base stake. The amount leaving the balance is the relevant measure.
A useful pre-session calculation is total bet multiplied by the maximum number of rounds you are prepared to buy, assuming the entire amount can be lost. For a feature purchase, treat the whole displayed price as exposed at once. Do not finance a purchase by increasing the base stake after losses.
Promotional funds do not change the slot's RTP. Wagering requirements, game contribution, maximum-bet rules and cash-out limits sit in the operator's terms. Check them independently, because a bonus can make an otherwise permitted game or stake ineligible.
Interface verification
Mobile help and what a demo can prove
The official web demo loaded a responsive game client and exposed the title, help date, version, rules and return information used here. On a phone, locate the menu, information icon, total bet, balance and paytable before considering a paid round. If text is clipped, rotate the device or expand the help rather than relying on a search result.
A demo can demonstrate symbol movement, feature order, mode selection and interface controls with valueless credits. It cannot establish that a real-money operator accepts players in New Zealand, that the operator uses the same game ID, or that its active RTP matches the demo.
Demo results also cannot validate the long-run RTP. Ten, one hundred or even thousands of observed spins are a noisy sample, especially in a volatile game. A large demo win is not a prediction for paid play and a dry demo sequence is not proof that the published mathematics is wrong.
If desktop and mobile help disagree, pause. Record the exact URL or operator, title, mode, help version and percentages. The mismatch can indicate a cached client, a market build or an update. Current deployed help is stronger evidence than an undated review, but conflicting clients still need clarification.
Separate evidence chain
New Zealand access is not inferred from the demo
Relax Gaming's own-games catalogue and public demo show that the studio publishes Hazakura Ways. They do not show that a named operator lawfully offers it to a person in New Zealand. Studio publication, aggregation, operator inventory, territorial access and legal status are separate claims.
Before any real-money use, verify the operator's identity, current New Zealand terms, age and location controls, payments, withdrawals, complaints, account limits and self-exclusion tools. A localised page, NZD wallet or country flag is not on its own regulatory proof.
New Zealand's online-gambling position is time-sensitive. Check the Department of Internal Affairs player guidance and our dated legal-status guide at the point of use. This review is about one game's rules and does not provide legal advice.
Even after an operator check, inspect the live game help. A valid operator relationship does not prove the highest RTP, and the right RTP does not prove operator status. Keeping both questions separate prevents a global demo from becoming an unsupported availability claim.
Source reconciliation
What the checked sources establish
The official product page establishes first-party authorship, public release status, layout, reference bets, headline features and the supported market game IDs. The loaded demo supplies the stronger operational evidence for rules, version, displayed RTP, purchase route and win-cap wording.
The loaded help verifies the 4,096-way grid, special-symbol expansion, random feature, Scatter schedule, Mega Bet, two purchase prices, three RTP routes and the regular-bet cap. It does not publish a stake range or prove access through an NZ operator.
Third-party reviews were used to find frequent questions and contradictions, not to override the live help. Competitors often print only the largest cap, omit the selected mode, describe alternative IDs as exact RTPs without a source, or treat global demo access as operator availability.
The evidence was checked on 6 October 2026. The date matters: Relax can update a client or product card, and operators can retain another certified build. Future checks should start with the deployed help and compare its identifier, version and return with this record.
We do not add a hit rate, feature frequency, universal volatility score, New Zealand operator claim or exact alternative RTP unless the checked first-party material supports it. An explicit evidence gap is preferable to a precise-looking number copied from another release.
