Mega Masks: rules, game features and verified RTP settings

Mega Masks is a Relax Gaming 5×5 slot with 41 fixed paylines. A random base-game event merges two or more adjacent reels into at least one Mega Symbol. Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 award 10 Free Spins; clearing five vine artefacts merges adjacent reels and adds two spins, up to 18 feature spins. Current help states 96.21% RTP at Basic Bet, 96.41% with the 20%-extra Mega Bet Level 1 and 96.28% with the 50%-extra Level 2. Those modes also pre-clear zero, five or nine artefacts.

Short answer

Evidence-led verdict

Mega Masks is a Relax Gaming first-party title identified in the checked demo as megamasks. the current official package exposes no readable version or publication date; the official release record dates the game to 3 March 2020. The rules describe five reels by five rows with 41 fixed paylines. Those identifiers matter because lower-return builds and market-specific clients can share the same artwork.

The checked help states a theoretical RTP of 96.21%, equivalent to a 3.79% theoretical house edge. That is the figure for the client opened during this review, not proof that every operator deploys the same build. Relax's product record lists alternative game IDs, so the percentage inside the exact live client remains the controlling value.

The checked help does not state one fixed ordinary-game maximum. Its paytables and any separately documented jackpot rules must therefore be read without inventing a universal cap. The reference stake range is €0.10 to €150. The risk profile is not graded in current first-party help; return and prize information do not predict whether a feature or large award will occur in a session.

This page confirms studio authorship, current help text and public release status. It does not claim that a New Zealand operator offers the title, that a demo is a local real-money product, or that a displayed euro-denominated reference range will appear as NZD. Those questions require a separate operator and live-client check.

Exact 2020 release

Mega Masks identity and evidence hierarchy

Relax Gaming announced Mega Masks on 3 March 2020 and continues to list it as an Own Game. The checked help belongs to game ID megamasks. That exact identifier matters because artwork alone cannot distinguish a configured build or later revision.

The public product record supplies a reference stake range of €0.10–€150. The live translation package exposes no readable version or update date, so this page records the check date and package URL. It does not turn the product card's marketing copy into current help.

The three RTP values are unusually strong evidence because they are literal numbers inside current game-specific rules, not unresolved placeholders. They still apply only to their named stake modes.

Fixed evaluation model

Five reels, five rows and 41 active paylines

Every paid spin uses all 41 paylines. Wins are evaluated on the fixed patterns from the leftmost reel, and the Wild substitutes for ordinary paying symbols. The total stake is not a per-line charge that can be reduced by switching lines off.

The 5×5 area provides room for the game's central merging mechanic. A merged symbol can occupy more than one reel position, but settlement remains tied to the 41 documented payline routes rather than cluster size or unrestricted adjacent ways.

Read the paytable at the selected total stake. A large symbol is a presentation of repeated matching positions, not a separate cash award simply because it covers more cells.

Random base-game event

Adjacent reels can merge into one symbol

At the start of a base-game spin, the Mega Symbol feature can activate randomly. Two or more adjacent reels merge and form at least one Mega Symbol. The maximum expansion occurs when all five reels have merged.

The feature exists only in the base game. It does not need three Bonus symbols, and it should not be confused with the similarly named Free Spins round.

A Mega Symbol repeats the same symbol across its merged area before paylines are evaluated. Its visual size can connect several routes, but it does not guarantee a win: the selected symbol and the rest of the grid must still satisfy payline rules.

Position-specific Bonus symbols

Reels 1, 3 and 5 award 10 Free Spins

The Mega Symbol Free Spins trigger requires Bonus symbols on reels one, three and five. Three Bonus symbols elsewhere are not described as an alternative trigger. Once the required positions land, the feature starts with 10 Free Spins.

During feature play, fireflies remove artefacts from the vines separating adjacent reels. The feature therefore turns visual progress into reel merging and extra-spin awards rather than using the random base-game merger.

The trigger round and feature are one documented route; there is no separate current help page for a “demo”, “bonus” or “RTP” edition.

Progressive reel merging

Five artefacts clear a vine and add two spins

Each vine lies between two neighbouring reels. Fireflies remove its artefacts during Free Spins. Once five have been cleared from a vine, that separator disappears and the adjacent reels merge.

Every cleared vine awards two additional Free Spins. With four separators across five reels, the feature can grow from 10 to a maximum of 18 spins. The 18 figure is a spin-count ceiling, not a maximum-win cap.

Merging changes the available symbol area for later spins, but it does not promise that every separator will clear. Progress depends on the feature's random firefly results.

Two enhanced stake modes

Level 1 adds 20%; Level 2 adds 50%

Basic Bet is also called Mega Bet Level 0 in the RTP rules. It applies no extra wager and pre-clears no feature artefacts.

Level 1 increases the total wager by 20%. It makes the random Mega Symbol event more frequent and removes five random artefacts when Free Spins begin. Current help assigns this route 96.41% RTP.

Level 2 adds 50%, further increases the random event's frequency and removes nine random artefacts at feature start. Its help-file RTP is 96.28%. The more expensive mode does not have the highest RTP.

Compare cost and configuration

Why the three modes must not be blended

At a hypothetical $1 Basic Bet, Level 1 makes the charged round $1.20 and Level 2 makes it $1.50. Those examples explain the surcharge; they do not assert that NZD is available.

RTP is calculated against the full amount charged in each mode. Level 1's 96.41% should not be applied to a Basic Bet spin, and Level 2's nine pre-cleared artefacts should not be described as free value because the round costs 50% more.

Before every spin, confirm both the mode and total bet. A sticky control can leave an enhanced wager enabled after the player has finished comparing it.

Live-help evidence

RTP, house edge and alternative builds

The information panel in the checked official demo states “the theoretical return to player for this game is 96.21%.” Subtracting that value from 100% gives a theoretical house edge of 3.79%. Both numbers describe the same long-run mathematical relationship from opposite directions; they are not separate charges and they are not a forecast for a deposit.

Checked mode or routeTheoretical RTPHow to use it
Basic Bet / Mega Bet Level 096.21%Current help: 6 October 2026
Mega Bet Level 196.41%Costs 20% extra; five artefacts removed at feature start
Mega Bet Level 296.28%Costs 50% extra; nine artefacts removed at feature start

A return of 96.21% means that across the model's very large test horizon, average awards correspond to 96.21 units for every 100 units staked. It does not mean a player receives that percentage back after 100 spins. High variation, rare features and capped awards can produce short samples far above or below the designed average.

Alternative game IDs are material even when their exact returns are absent from the public product card. A casino can deploy a lower-RTP build under the same consumer title. We therefore do not label 96.21% “universal” or “guaranteed.” Open the information control in the operator client and look for the percentage after the game has loaded.

Do not infer RTP from a demo balance, one successful bonus, a streaming clip or a site's headline card. A random sample cannot identify the configured model reliably. The useful audit record is the exact title, visible game ID or version, displayed RTP, date and operator client captured together.

Distribution, not prediction

Volatility and maximum-win limits

The checked help and 2020 release do not assign Mega Masks a named volatility tier. Random reel mergers, feature progress and mode-dependent stakes describe how results can vary, but they cannot be converted into an official low, medium or high label.

The current help does not publish a single fixed ordinary-game cap. That evidence gap must remain separate from moving progressive prizes and promotional maximum-win copy. If a deployed operator client states a cap, record that exact build and the unit it uses rather than importing a number from another source.

A cap is a settlement limit, not a realistic session target. It provides no countdown, hit schedule or evidence that raising the stake improves the chance per dollar. Previous non-winning spins do not move a random future result closer to the cap. Treat every paid round as new exposure.

Practical risk is also shaped by total stake, spin speed, feature purchases, enhanced-spin options and session length. A lower stake repeated rapidly can expose more money than a higher stake used briefly. Decide the total acceptable loss before opening the game, then use account limits and breaks rather than chasing a feature.

Read the charged amount

Bet range, optional costs and affordability

The product record gives a reference minimum of €0.10 and maximum of €150. Those euro-denominated figures identify the provider's reference build. They do not promise equivalent NZD controls, and an operator can apply different denominations or account limits.

Always read the total bet immediately before a paid action. The interface can show denomination, level, lines and total stake separately. Enhanced spins or bonus-reel options may increase the price of a round, while a feature purchase can cost many multiples of the base stake. The amount leaving the balance is the relevant measure.

A useful pre-session calculation is total bet multiplied by the maximum number of rounds you are prepared to buy, assuming the entire amount can be lost. For a feature purchase, treat the whole displayed price as exposed at once. Do not finance a purchase by increasing the base stake after losses.

Promotional funds do not change the slot's RTP. Wagering requirements, game contribution, maximum-bet rules and cash-out limits sit in the operator's terms. Check them independently, because a bonus can make an otherwise permitted game or stake ineligible.

Interface verification

Mobile help and what a demo can prove

The official web demo loaded a responsive game client and exposed the title, help date, version, rules and return information used here. On a phone, locate the menu, information icon, total bet, balance and paytable before considering a paid round. If text is clipped, rotate the device or expand the help rather than relying on a search result.

A demo can demonstrate symbol movement, feature order, mode selection and interface controls with valueless credits. It cannot establish that a real-money operator accepts players in New Zealand, that the operator uses the same game ID, or that its active RTP matches the demo.

Demo results also cannot validate the long-run RTP. Ten, one hundred or even thousands of observed spins are a noisy sample, especially in a volatile game. A large demo win is not a prediction for paid play and a dry demo sequence is not proof that the published mathematics is wrong.

If desktop and mobile help disagree, pause. Record the exact URL or operator, title, mode, help version and percentages. The mismatch can indicate a cached client, a market build or an update. Current deployed help is stronger evidence than an undated review, but conflicting clients still need clarification.

Separate evidence chain

New Zealand access is not inferred from the demo

Relax Gaming's own-games catalogue and public demo show that the studio publishes Mega Masks. They do not show that a named operator lawfully offers it to a person in New Zealand. Studio publication, aggregation, operator inventory, territorial access and legal status are separate claims.

Before any real-money use, verify the operator's identity, current New Zealand terms, age and location controls, payments, withdrawals, complaints, account limits and self-exclusion tools. A localised page, NZD wallet or country flag is not on its own regulatory proof.

New Zealand's online-gambling position is time-sensitive. Check the Department of Internal Affairs player guidance and our dated legal-status guide at the point of use. This review is about one game's rules and does not provide legal advice.

Even after an operator check, inspect the live game help. A valid operator relationship does not prove the highest RTP, and the right RTP does not prove operator status. Keeping both questions separate prevents a global demo from becoming an unsupported availability claim.

Source reconciliation

What the checked sources establish

The product and 3 March 2020 release establish Relax authorship, release status, 41 lines, reference stakes and headline features. Current help directly states all three RTPs, Mega Bet surcharges, artefact advantages, the 10-spin start and 18-spin feature limit. It does not state a hard round cap.

Current help verifies 96.21% Basic Bet RTP, 96.41% Level 1 RTP and 96.28% Level 2 RTP. It also verifies the random base-only Mega Symbol event, Bonus symbols on reels 1/3/5, five artefacts per vine, +2 spins per cleared vine, up to 18 feature spins, and 20%/50% additional wagers.

Third-party reviews were used to find frequent questions and contradictions, not to override the live help. Competitors often print only the largest cap, omit the selected mode, describe alternative IDs as exact RTPs without a source, or treat global demo access as operator availability.

The evidence was checked on 6 October 2026. The date matters: Relax can update a client or product card, and operators can retain another certified build. Future checks should start with the deployed help and compare its identifier, version and return with this record.

We do not add a hit rate, feature frequency, universal volatility score, New Zealand operator claim or exact alternative RTP unless the checked first-party material supports it. An explicit evidence gap is preferable to a precise-looking number copied from another release.

Two-minute audit

Checklist before relying on this guide

  1. Match the full title Mega Masks and developer Relax Gaming.
  2. Confirm game ID megamasks, help date 6 October 2026 and version not exposed where shown.
  3. Check the layout: five reels by five rows with 41 fixed paylines.
  4. Read feature triggers, reset rules and settlement order in the live help.
  5. Record the active RTP rather than assuming 96.21%.
  6. Confirm whether the deployed help states an ordinary cap; preserve the gap if it does not.
  7. Read the displayed total stake after enabling any option.
  8. Verify operator identity and New Zealand access independently.
  9. Check promotional terms separately from game mathematics.
  10. Set money and time limits that remain acceptable if no feature arrives.

If the live help differs, use that deployed build and send the title, game ID, version, date and screenshot through our corrections process. That evidence lets us update one canonical review without creating duplicate RTP or bonus pages.
