Entry rules

Casino age and ID requirements

You must be at least 20 to gamble in, enter or remain in a casino gambling area in New Zealand. That rule comes from section 303 of the Gambling Act 2003.

Dated legal summary: checked 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.

The legal threshold

The Act sets the threshold at 20 for casino gambling areas. This is different from age rules that may apply to other gambling products or licensed hospitality areas.

Bring current photo ID

Accepted documents can depend on the venue’s current process. Check the venue’s official guidance before travelling rather than relying on an undated list.

A practical check

Confirm that the document is current, includes your photo and date of birth, and is accepted by the venue you plan to visit.
